The Loonies woke early this morning, although not as early as most competitors (not sure why). The Loonies slept better than most and were immune to the sporadic sounds of the overnight generator due to last night’s beers. ;-) A first unofficial challenge arose pre 7am when some of the support crew decided to wash their ambulance at the side of the lake only to get seriously stuck in the mud. After much solutionising, some old-fashioned grunt and heave came to the rescue and a plain but tasty breakfast was well-earned !

The roads east across the island were much more friendly today, well-tarmacked and at times reminiscent of the long, straight roads of the mid-west USA. Our little tuk-tuk held up well to the higher speeds although in hindsight maybe a rev counter would have reduced some of the squeals from the engine and gearbox. The 93 km distance was covered easily enough, although today’s challenge of having a push-up contest with a local Sri Lankan soldier proved very elusive to nail down. Not easy getting a uniformed soldier to take on such a challenge with 2 grown men dressed as a cartoon character (who would have guessed that !)

Despite a rather lazy approach and a nice stop for a local spicy fish lunch, before we knew it we had arrived at the Muula Muula beach resort in Passikudah. A sister resort of the place we stayed in beside Sigiriya, it is similarly amazing, great design, fabulous location and views. Arriving early gave us the chance to enjoy the pool and kick back. All set now for the evening “Sarong and Head Wiggle” challenge and hopefully a tasty seafood meal. Perhaps a few beers will be involved…..
