ABOUT US

Like us, many of you will have had those conversations with friends (usually fuelled by alcohol) where a great idea for a holiday / road-trip is floated and a wave of excitement envelops the conversation. Ideas come and go like Chinese share prices and in no time an elaborate plan is hatched. But how many of those plans start drifting onto the outskirts of people's memory, destined never to come to reality as life's harsh realities take control. Sadly, too many ...

Not so for our "Hong Kong Loonies". With Sean taking the crucial step of taking a "career break" to pursue various dream trips such as trekking to Everest Base Camp (getting caught in the April earthquake was an unexpected addition) and sailing the high seas across Asia;  and Dave still ruing unfulfilled schemes such as "The Everest Club" and "Alaska to Ushuaia in an Old Taxi" these guys are now formally paid up and entered into the Lanka Challenge 2015.

Never heard of the the Lanka Challenge ? .. .think 9 days of an 'Amazing Race' sytle mix of mental and physical challenges each gaining (or not) points for your team. Don't forget, against all these challenges you'll need to navigate and drive yourself across Sri Lanka in a tthree wheeled "tuk-tuk" !

The Lanka Challenge has the right mix of adventure, unexplored places, and the ability for family to come along and join in the fun. Who knows, it may well be the springboard for future challenges, no doubt some future plans will be hatched round the campfire as the route progresses and the local beverages are consumed ...

What's in a name ?

Hong Kong Loonies comes about partly because Sean and Dave both live and work in Hong Kong, and partly from their association with Kowloon Rugby Club, where they first met. Kowloon members and players are known as "Loons" or "Loonies" depending on the circumstances and time of day !

The Hong Kong Phooey outfits have the obvious association with Hong Kong, and are also well suited to the hot and sticky climes of Sri Lanka.

So, all that's left to say is "Welcome aboard !".

Don't forget to follow us on our journey across the magical spice island of Sri Lanka !
